This morning I had a slight headache and was not in a very uplifting mood. Probably a combination of a few wines last night and not enough sleep. My 2 year old decided it was party time in the middle of the night. Anyway…
After getting the kids to school I sat down in my back garden for a cup of black coffee. It was 2 degrees celsius, that’s 35.6 degrees fahrenheit, but the sun was shining so I put a chair right in the sun. Healing!
I closed my eyes and melted away in the warm yellow, orange colors that shone right through my eyelids. Then I focused on birds that were anywhere around in the neighborhood. Just any bird would do. I also heard some cars and trucks passing, but my main focus was on the birds.
Just within a few beautiful seconds of listening to the birds singing, my mind wandered off into daily business. I am always pretty quickly aware when that happens, so I let the thought pass like I cloud and put my focus back on the birds.
Back to the yellow and orange colors, the heat of the sun on my face and the birds. The beautiful sounds of sparrows, robins, crows, blackbirds, seagulls, flying close, far away and even the sounds of bird wings flapping. Being in this meditative state makes you totally forget the cold and everything else.
It’s just a simple transition from daily busyness, chores and routine into a world that seems a million miles away. A world of softness, calmness, peace, bliss and inspiration.
I decided I am going to do this every day whenever I see a glimpse of the sun, even when it’s freezing cold. Sometimes the cold will keep us from experiencing the beautiful outdoors. The cold is not an obstacle here.
Just close your eyes for a few seconds, focus, listen, see the colors and enter a beautiful world where everything will fall in place.
